Officials are urging consumers not to ingest any Diamond Shruumz products after two people died as a result of harmful compounds identified in them. According to a June Food and Drug Administration (FDA) recall, the products, including Diamond Shruumz Infused Cones, Chocolates Bars, and Gummies, contain “muscimol, a chemical found in mushrooms of the genus Amanita,” which has the potential to cause symptoms such as “seizures, agitation, involuntary muscle contractions, loss of consciousness, confusion, sleepiness, nausea and vomiting, abnormal heart rates, and hyper/hypotension.”
According to the release, the items were marketed nationwide through retail outlets and mail orders. “All lots or Best Buy dates and all flavors of Diamond Shruumz Infused Cones, Chocolates Bars, and Gummies … are covered in this recall, and in the event the product is missing lot information or Best Buy dates, all flavors of Diamond Shruumz Infused Cones, Chocolate Bars, and Gummies … product are still included in this recall,” according to the statement.
On July 23, the FDA revised its alert, stating that 74 illnesses had been recorded in 28 states, with 38 hospitalizations and two deaths. The Centers for Prevention and Control of Diseases (CDC) recently issued a notice stating that goods containing psychoactive substances, such as cannabis or mushroom extracts, are becoming more widely available. These ‘edibles’ are frequently sold as gummy candies, chocolates, and other snack foods. They may contain hidden additives such as illicit narcotics, other contaminants, or potentially dangerous pollutants not approved for food use.”
Though retailers and wholesalers were instructed to cease use and distribution, the FDA stated that “recalled Diamond Shruumz-brand products are still on the shelves at several smoke/vape shops, as well as retailers that sell hemp-derived products such as cannabidiol (CBD) or delta-8 tetrahydrocannabinol (delta-8 THC).” The FDA is monitoring the firm’s recall to determine its effectiveness.
The agency further stated that anyone who has purchased any of the company’s edibles is “urged to stop using the product, destroy the goods, and contact Prophet Premium Blends via phone at (209) 314-0881 or email at info@diamondshruumz.com with their order number to commence the refund.” The CDC added that anyone who took these items and experienced any symptoms should seek emergency medical advice or call the Poison Help Line (1-800-222-1222).
What Customers Should Do?
Consumers who have purchased mushroom chocolates or candies should carefully compare the labels to the recall notice. They should not ingest a recalled product.
- Dispose or Return: Affected products should be returned to the store where they were purchased for a refund, or they can be safely disposed of as directed by health authorities.
- Seek Medical Assistance: Anyone who has ingested these products and is suffering negative symptoms should immediately seek medical assistance.
Ongoing Investigation
The FDA and other health authorities are continuing to investigate the recalled products. They strive to identify the origin of the wrong responses and remove any possibly dangerous products from the market. Manufacturers and distributors of these products are assisting with the investigation and recall efforts.
Public Safety Alert
Health experts advise the public to be cautious while consuming mushroom-infused goods, particularly those obtained online or from questionable sources. This recall emphasizes purchasing products from reputable companies that follow strict safety guidelines.
In conclusion, the worldwide recall of mushroom chocolates and candies is a stark reminder of the importance of product safety and the risks connected with unregulated health goods. Consumers are asked to keep informed, inspect their items, and follow all recall instructions to protect themselves and their loved ones.
